BOREN REACTS TO THE

STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS

WASHINGTON D.C - U.S. Representative Dan Boren issued the following statement Tuesday night following President Bush's State of the Union address:

“Tonight, President Bush reminded us of the many dangers we still face in the war on terror.

Although some want to politicize this issue, I share the President’s vision of a free and safe Iraq.  Leaving Iraq before the job is done would be disastrous, but it’s important that we have measurable results and attainable goals for our military commanders.

I was glad to hear the President talk about improving access to health care.  The President’s programs are an important step in expanding coverage in America, but we have to do more to provide quality affordable healthcare in rural America.  I look forward to working with the President on the best solutions to help Oklahomans afford quality health care.

The President also spoke about education.  I’m a firm believer in the power of education to enrich lives and revitalize our economy.  In today’s global marketplace, our workforce must be able compete with our counterparts around the world.  Making sure Oklahomans have access to higher education whether it’s technical training or at a large university has to be a top priority.

As we move forward, I would like to see more proposals to revitalize and grow the rural economy. More emphasis should be placed on making our rural communities sustainable by creating jobs and economic opportunities.”
