Statement on Hurricane Katrina relief efforts

WASHINGTON D.C - Congressman Dan Boren today released the following statement on Hurricane Katrina relief efforts and the $10.5 billion in FEMA funding passed by Congress:

“The federal response to this disaster has been inadequate, and the Administration and Congress have much more to do and must act faster.  Moments like this are exactly what government is here for.  We should give people on the ground the resources they need to get the job done.

“People from all corners of the country are putting their own problems aside to come to the aide of those in the Gulf region.  I commend Gov. Henry's commitment of Oklahoma National Guard troops to the region, and the outpouring of support I have seen from Oklahomans across the state this week.  I also applaud private industry - including utility workers from PSO and OG&E - for their willingness to serve their neighbors.

“Today Congress authorized 10.5 billion dollars to help restore law and order and provide food and shelter for those in need.  There is much more to be done, and I encourage citizens to call the Red Cross and offer their support.”
