U.S. Representative Dan Boren to Visit Iraq

Joins congressional delegation to visit troops

WASHINGTON D.C - U.S. Representative Dan Boren announced today that he will travel to Iraq as part of a Congressional delegation led by Congressman Tom Cole.  While there, Boren plans to visit with Oklahoma troops and gain a firsthand look at U.S. efforts in Iraq

“As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I need to know the situation on the ground,” Boren remarked.  “This trip will be invaluable in guiding my assessment of our efforts in this country,” Boren said.

“I can ask Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld questions about our efforts in a hearing room in Washington, but there is no substitute for first-person experience,” said Boren.

Boren says his primary focus on the trip is to assess troop morale and hear from Oklahoma troops about the ground effort.  “I want to make sure that our troops have the equipment and resources they need to safely carry out their objectives,” said Boren.

“I want our courageous troops to know that we are supporting them and that we are deeply grateful for their service to our nation,” Boren said.
