WASHINGTON D.C - Today, political idols teamed with American Idols…sort of.

 

Oklahoma Congressman Dan Boren (D-OK) and Alabama Congressman Spencer Bachus (R-AL) are placing a friendly wager on their American Idol constituents. 

 

Congressman Dan Boren believes Eastern Oklahoma’s own Carrie Underwood will be the next American Idol.  In fact, he is so confident that Carrie will be crowned winner, he has accepted a friendly bet with Alabama Congressman Spencer Bachus (R-AL).  Bachus represents the future American Idol runner-up Bo Bice.      

 

Carrie and Bo are the final two contestants out of over 100,000 that auditioned for Fox’s American Idol.  The two will face off on Fox’s American Idol this Tuesday. 

 

Congressman Boren has put up enough Oklahoma beef barbecue to feed the entire Bachus office, but doesn’t anticipate needing it.  “When Carrie cinches it on Tuesday, we’re going to be eating, not serving,” Boren quipped. 

 

“Oklahoma has a long tradition of producing country music talent.  We know a rising star when we see one!  Come Tuesday, all of Oklahoma will be lighting up the phones for Carrie as she ‘Carrie’s’ away the competition," Boren said.  

 

Congressman Bachus also chose to put food on the line, wagering Chicken Fingers and homemade pineapple mustard sauce from Bice’s hometown of Helena, Alabama. 

 

“Bo Bice has represented Alabama with class throughout the competition.  Our office is confident that his extraordinary talent has resulted in the nationwide ‘Bo-mentum’ that will propel him to victory.  We are looking forward to feasting on that Oklahoma barbecue,” Bachus said.

 

Carrie Underwood is from Checotah, Oklahoma, located in Boren’s Congressional district. She was one of 24 semifinalists for American Idol's fourth season.
