WASHINGTON D.C. - Informational meetings coordinated by the offices of Congressman Boren, Senator Inhofe, and Congressman Sullivan, are being held for all military veterans and surviving spouses on Friday, September 19, 2008. The purpose of the meetings is to bring subject matter experts from both the federal and state government directly to the veterans.

Over the past year, Congressman Dan Boren and Senator Jim Inhofe’s offices have coordinated several similar meetings in Southeast Oklahoma, hosted by AES Shady Point. Based on the overwhelming success of the earlier meetings, the congressional delegation in conjunction with the Oklahoma Department of Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct several additional meetings throughout the state this fall.
These informational meetings will provide veterans a unique opportunity to receive information and updates on benefit programs, learn about federal and state legislative affecting veterans and their surviving spouses, and to meet with case workers and specific agencies to discuss their individual needs.
The meetings will include presentations on benefits and eligibility by the staff of the Veterans Benefits Administration Regional Office and the Jack C. Montgomery Veterans Administration Medical Center from Muskogee. Representatives from the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs and Claremore Veterans Center will also attend to discuss state veterans programs.
Congressman Dan Boren and Senator Inhofe’s office are assisting with the Claremore meeting, and Congressman John Sullivan’s office is helping to coordinate the Collinsville meeting, and. The congressional offices will answer questions, and provide case workers available to assist veterans with individual issues. Representatives from the Oklahoma Department of Veterans of Foreign Wars, as well as other local veterans’ service organizations will attend. State and local elected officials have also been invited to attend to enable veterans to share their concerns with their local leaders.
