WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. Congressman Dan Boren today expressed his appreciation for the support and assistance that the families recently affected by the Georgia-Pacific plant closing are receiving from local Workforce Oklahoma officials, industrial park officials, and Georgia-Pacific officials. Boren also highlighted several options available to families still seeking employment assistance or information on career opportunities. He issued the following statement:
“These employees and their families deserve all the support and assistance for which they qualify, and I have made my office available to assist with that effort in any way possible. The plant’s closing was completely out of the control of these hard-working Oklahomans. I have been impressed by reports of the assistance these families are receiving locally and the job opportunities available near Pryor. I would like to thank Senator Sean Burrage, Representative Ben Sherrer, Sanders Mitchell with MAIP, and Marsha Cunningham, manager of the Pryor Workforce Center, for their service to the community and their work on this issue."
“Announcements like this can rock a community’s foundation. However, they also demonstrate the resilience and opportunities that a community like Pryor, and a facility like Mid-America, can provide. Hopefully, the national housing market conditions that caused this closing will improve soon and these workers can return to their jobs with Georgia-Pacific.”
Boren highlighted the following sources of information for affected employees who might have not already sought assistance or employment:
