WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. Congressman Dan Boren was honored today by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce with the Spirit of Enterprise Award for his voting record on behalf of Oklahoma and the nation’s businesses during the first session of the 110th Congress. The award presentation was held in Washington D.C. this morning.
“I am honored to receive this award,” Boren said. “The small business community, energy industry, and other manufacturers are an integral part of Oklahoma’s economy. I am committed to doing everything I can in Congress to help them grow our economy and create additional jobs in Oklahoma.”
“Representative Boren has proven to be an effective ally to the business community, supporting legislation that helps grow the economy and creates new jobs for hardworking Americans,” said Tom Donohue, Chamber president and CEO. “The Chamber is grateful for Dan’s commitment to these important issues and is proud to present him with this award.”
Boren was the only Democrat in the entire U.S. House of Representatives to receive a rating of higher than 90 percent with the Chamber in the first session. The rating is based on 20 key votes such as transportation and water resource infrastructure funding, comprehensive energy policy reform, tax relief and other issues vital to Oklahoma businesses.
“Reducing the burden government places on business is good for our economy, it’s good for workers and it’s good for the consumer,” Boren said. “Some regulation is important but overregulation hurts us all. My number one priority is creating jobs in Oklahoma and we have to work with business, not against it, to do that.”
The Chamber’s “Spirit of Enterprise” award is given annually to members of Congress based on rankings it gives for key business votes outlined in its yearly publication, How They Voted. This is the twentieth year that the Chamber has formally honored the accomplishments of a select group of members of Congress. The U.S. Chamber is the world’s largest business federation representing more than 3 million businesses and organizations of every size, sector, and region.
