WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. Congressman Dan Boren has secured $181,855 to benefit the Family Health Center of Southern Oklahoma in Tishomingo. The funding was part of the FY08 Omnibus Appropriations Act which passed the House this week.
“I’m pleased to secure these resources to expand vital services and family health options in southeastern Oklahoma,” Boren said. “I remain committed to providing federal funds for projects like this to invest in our health care infrastructure.”
After further deliberations on the annual appropriations bills, Congress felt that this project was important enough to receive an increase in directed funding. When the House passed the first version of this spending bill, the funding total was set at $100,000.
“The increase in funding for this project demonstrates that my colleagues agree with me that improving our community-based health care centers is something that is critical,” Boren said.
The funding will purchase new digital radiology equipment for the Family Health Center. The equipment will allow the center to offer radiology service to better treat and diagnose patients. It will also allow the center to replace current leased equipment. After the completion of the center’s new facility, the leased equipment will no longer be available. The Tishomingo health facility provides greater access to important health services for citizens in Johnston County and surrounding communities.
“We are very excited about this project and I want to thank Congressman Boren for his leadership,” said Tina Davis, Director of Family Health Center of Oklahoma. “Until the Congressman called recently to give us the wonderful news, we were set to move into our new facility without this technology and the expanded services it allows our patients. It was very welcome news.”
