WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. Congressman Dan Boren, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, has secured $5.6 million in the FY08 Defense Appropriations Act to benefit Oklahoma. The bill passed the House and Senate last week and has been signed into law by the President.
“The McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, other Oklahoma military installations, and the many other defense projects being conducted in the state, make Oklahoma a critical component of our nation’s defense infrastructure. This role is especially important in our time of war,” Boren said. “I’m pleased to provide these vital resources to expand their capabilities and to invest in their future.”
Funding Boren secured in the Defense Appropriations Act includes:
-
$2 million for bomb line modernization equipment at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant. Funding is necessary to support new explosive load requirements and much needed modernization upgrades
-
$800,000 for the procurement of ammunition peculiar equipment (APE) out-loading module at the McAlester Defense Ammunition Center (DAC), allowing ammunition to be moved more efficiently.
-
$2,000,000 for AIRS missile defense program that provides capabilities of post-boost detection, tracking and discrimination of long range missile threats to the United States and our allies.
-
$800,000 for Westwood Tulsa which is working on power conversion equipment projects for future naval ship power generator programs under the Office of Naval Research program. The funding will allow for technology to meet the Navy’s requirements for smaller, lighter, higher density generator packages to provide significantly increased electrical power for future naval ships.
