WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. Congressman Dan Boren announced today that he has secured $2 million in the 2008 Defense Appropriations bill to benefit the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant. The funding will be used for bomb line modernization equipment at McAAP. The funding is necessary to provide equipment to support new explosive load requirements and much needed modernization upgrades. The bill passed the House of Representatives this week.
“The McAlester Army Ammunition Plant and our other military installations make Oklahoma a critical component of our nation’s defense infrastructure. This role is especially important during a time of war,” Boren said. “I’m pleased to provide these vital resources to expand capabilities and invest in the future of McAAP.”
The funding had been previously authorized this spring under the 2008 National Defense Authorization Act which included the authorization of $36.8 million in military projects for eastern Oklahoma. The appropriations bill that passed the House this week sends the authorized funding directly to McAAP.
