BOREN SUPPORTS ‘NO CONFIDENCE’ VOTE ON ATTORNEY GENERAL

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Dan Boren this week threw his support behind legislation that expresses no confidence in the performance of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and urges President Bush to request his resignation.  H. Res. 417 was introduced on Monday by Congressmen Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Artur Davis (D-Ala.), both former federal prosecutors, and has quickly gained the support of 117 members of the House.  Boren issued the following statement:

“As the story behind the firings of the U.S. Attorneys continues to unfold, it is increasingly clear that the situation has been mismanaged from the start.  The Attorney General’s statements have been inconsistent at best.  He has been given more than enough time to reassert himself as someone who can be trusted as our nation’s top law enforcement official.  Instead, his actions have lost him the confidence of the American people.  It’s time for a new, independent Attorney General who can help put this all behind us and return integrity to the Department of Justice.”
