BOREN WELCOMES GOOGLE TO EASTERN OKLAHOMA

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Dan Boren met today with Google’s top federal affairs executive to welcome the company to Eastern Oklahoma.  Boren met with Google Senior Policy Counsel Alan Davidson in Washington as Google executives and local community leaders announced the company will be building a facility in Pryor this summer.

“I am pleased Google has chosen Pryor for the location of its newest data center,” Boren said.  “Google’s presence shows good-paying, high-tech jobs aren’t just for Silicon Valley.  It is my hope that other high-tech firms will follow their lead and take a look at Eastern Oklahoma.”

Google will invest $600 million in construction, payroll and technology for a facility to be located at the Mid-America Industrial Park in Pryor.  Once complete, the facility will house 200 employees, including facility managers, hardware technicians, software technicians and contract employees.  Officials estimate 500 people will be employed during the construction phase.  Google plans to have the data center up-and-running within 18 months.

“State and local officials have done an incredible job working with Google to bring this deal together,” Boren said.  “I am committed to working at the federal level to help Google prosper in Eastern Oklahoma.”

Fortune magazine recently rated Google the best company to work for in America.  The company employed more than 12,500 worldwide as of March 2007.
