WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Dan Boren today released the following statement regarding the resignation of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and the nomination of former CIA Director Robert Gates to replace him:

"The American people want a change of direction with the strategy in Iraq.  While I appreciate Secretary Rumsfeld’s service, it’s time for a fresh set of eyes to help find solutions to the challenges we face on the ground.

"Bob Gates is personal family friend and I look forward to working with him should he be confirmed as the next Secretary of Defense."
