BOREN ANNOUNCES $1.5 MILLION IN FIRE GRANTS FOR EASTERN OKLAHOMA

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Dan Boren announced today the award of $1,530,405 in fire grants to 18 fire departments in Eastern Oklahoma.  The grants, awarded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, will be used for vehicle acquisition, operations and safety.

“I am pleased to announce that this money is headed to Eastern Oklahoma,” Boren said.  “It will help ensure our rural fire departments are not left behind as they work to provide first responder services to Oklahomans when they need it most.”

The Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program awards grants directly to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public and first responders.  In Fiscal Year 2006 the Department of Homeland Security will award $485 million to fire departments across the country.
