Boren statement on Mark Foley investigation

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Dan Boren, who served as a Senate Page in the summer of 1989, today released the following statement:

“The Congress and federal law enforcement officials must immediately conduct a thorough investigation into Mark Foley’s actions.  That must include a review of any wrongdoing by those who might have known of his inappropriate contact with participants in the page program but withheld that information from law enforcement.

“When students come to our nation’s capital to participate in the page program they and their parents entrust their well being to the Congress.  Mark Foley’s actions have raised concerns about students’ safety and the House must act swiftly to address those concerns.

“As a former Congressional Page I understand what an opportunity and valuable learning experience it can be.  A thorough review of the page program must be conducted and the necessary safeguards put in place to ensure they are protected.”
