FORMER GOV. KEATING WRAPS UP BOREN INTERN LECTURE SERIES

WASHINGTON, D.C. - For the second consecutive summer, U.S. Congressman Dan Boren continued a tradition began by his father, former U.S. Senator David Boren.  Boren has hosted a number of high-profile speakers to address interns from his and other Oklahoma congressional offices.

“It’s not only an honor, but a responsibility to educate the young minds of tomorrow’s leaders,” Boren said.  “I hope the lecture series will enhance the internships of many bright young Oklahomans and augment their learning experiences here in Washington, D.C.

Former Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating addressed interns this week discussing everything from his experiences as an Oklahoma politician and his role during the Oklahoma City Bombing, to his recent endeavors as a children’s book author.  Keating noted how important it is for young people to become involved in government, and how internships are a great stepping stone for public service.

Boren kicked off the 2006 lecture series with Time Magazine’s Washington Bureau Chief, Michael Duffy.  Other speakers included:

·        Recording Industry Association of America CEO Mitch Bainwol

·        NBC News Correspondent Chip Reid

·        Cook Political Report Editor Amy Walter

·        Former Pentagon Press Secretary and CNN Political Analyst Torie Clark
