BOREN CALLED TO WHITE HOUSE

TO DISCUSS ENERGY POLICY

WASHINGTON D.C - U.S. Representative Dan Boren met with President Bush and Vice President Cheney on Thursday to discuss energy policy.  Boren was part of a small bipartisan congressional delegation invited to the White House to work with the administration on the issue.

“The president talked in his State of the Union address about the need to decrease our dependence on foreign oil,” Boren said.  “To do that we can’t rely on just one idea.  We need to look at all of the ideas out there and pull the different pieces together.”

Boren serves on the House Resources Committee and its Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources, which is responsible for energy rights on our public lands.  He continues to support measures in Congress that help Oklahoma’s energy companies improve services to consumers.

“Whether we’re talking about energy exploration or a commitment to alternative fuels, increasing our domestic production is good news for Oklahoma,” Boren said.

“We saw this summer, especially in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, that there are weaknesses in our energy infrastructure.  We must come together to address these weaknesses and provide a stable domestic source of energy to prevent the outrageous price hikes we saw this summer.”

“I look forward to continue working with the president and my colleagues in Congress to develop a common-sense energy policy,” Boren said.  “It’s just irresponsible to continue relying on the most unstable region of the world to meet our energy needs.”
