BOREN SECURES $9.1 MILLION FOR OKLAHOMA
MILITARY INSTALLATIONS

WASHINGTON D.C - As the U.S. House of Representatives adjourned for the year, Congressman Dan Boren (D-Muskogee) announced that he has secured $9.1 million for the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant and other military projects in the state.

“These projects will continue to solidify the integral role Oklahoma’s installations play in our nation’s defense and help ensure the future of our bases,” Boren said.

Funding Boren secured in the Department of Defense Appropriations bill includes:

  • $3 million for ammunition peculiar equipment (APE) out-loading equipment at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant.  The plant, which is the nation’s largest power projection platform, has a requirement to ship 400 ISO containers of ammunition per day.  This equipment will allow the plant to take advantage of advances in engineering to more efficiently move this ammunition.

  • $2 million for Excalibur XM982 Life Cycle improvements at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant and Fort Sill.  This funding will support manufacturing efforts to reduce costs and enable a smooth production transition.

  • $3 million for the Institute of Protective Apparel Research and Technology (IPART) at Oklahoma State University.  OSU will develop and test the next generation of multifunctional materials and technologies needed for body armor to save the lives and limbs of our men and women in uniform.

Boren also secured funding in the Military Quality of Life and Veterans Affairs bill:

  • $1.1 million for the construction of a high-explosives storage facility at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant.

“Through the hard work and devotion of both our military commanders and civilian workforce, McAAP has become one of the finest installations in our nation’s defense apparatus.  I’m pleased that we could provide these vital resources to expand their capabilities and invest in their future,” Boren said.
