BOREN SECURES $12,252,000 FOR WATER RESOURCE PROJECTS

WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. Congressman Boren has secured $12,252,000 for various Corps of Engineers projects and studies on Oklahoma water resources in eastern Oklahoma.  The projects include operations and maintenance funding for the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System and Tenkiller Lake, as well as additional funding for the Grand Lake Comprehensive Study.  The funding was included in the conference report for H.R. 3183, the Energy and Water Appropriations Act for FY 2010, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives today by a vote of 308 to 114 and now heads to the President to be signed into law.

“It is an honor to bring this funding back to eastern Oklahoma for critical water resource management projects.  Oklahoma’s agricultural sector, recreation and tourism industry, and emergency management efforts are dependent on solid analysis and maintenance of our water infrastructure.  Our many lakes, rivers, watersheds, and navigable waters are a critical component of local, county, and state economies.  I look forward to working with the Corps of Engineers to continue obtaining this funding in the future,” Boren said.

Projects:

$5,866,000 - McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System – Operations and Maintenance

$6,296,000 - Tenkiller Lake – Operations and Maintenance

$90,000 - Grand Lake Comprehensive Study

The conference report on HR 3183, the Energy and Water Appropriations Act for FY 2010, appropriates a total of $33.5 billion for energy and water quality needs across the nation.  The measure provides $5.4 billion for the Army Corps of Engineers and $27.1 billion for the Energy Department.
