BOREN AND VETERANS SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS HOST VETERANS ADVISORY MEETING IN OKMULGEE

WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. Congressmen Dan Boren, along with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the Oklahoma Department of Veteran’s Affairs, hosted a Veterans Advisory meeting this morning at the University of Oklahoma George Nigh Rehabilitation Center in Okmulgee on behalf of veterans in eastern Oklahoma.  The meeting was called to allow veterans, veterans’ agencies, and veterans service organizations an opportunity to provide Boren feedback on various issues and legislation that pertain to military service members and veterans.

“It is always an honor to meet with the veterans of eastern Oklahoma,” Boren said.  “I would like to thank all of our partners for helping host such a successful event.  It is important for me to learn about the thoughts and opinions our veterans have on various initiatives and to keep building upon the work of past veteran’s advisory meetings.”

The Veterans Advisory meetings are utilized by Boren’s office to provide legislative updates to veterans, veteran service organizations, and veterans’ agencies, and to bring administrative personnel and case workers together in one location to provide veterans with new benefit information and assist them with current individual case issues.

“These meetings provide an opportunity for veterans to learn about Congressional legislation that affects their lives.  It’s also critical to make sure our veterans know there are caseworkers in my office, in the other elected offices, and at several veterans’ service organizations that are ready and willing to help them obtain the services and benefits to which they are entitled,” Boren said.

In addition to Congressman Boren, speakers for the event included representatives from the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center, VA Regional Office in Muskogee, Fort Gibson and Fort Sill National Cemeteries, Military Order of Purple Heart, Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs.  Additional participants included the Korean Veterans Association, Oklahoma Veterans War Commission, Oklahoma Workforce, Oklahoma National Guard, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and many veterans from all parts of the Second Congressional District.
