BOREN TO REJOIN ARMED SERVICES COMMITTEE

WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. Congressman Dan Boren announced this week that he will rejoin the House Armed Service Committee to fill an open seat on the committee.  As the Armed Services Committee gets set to discuss the next Defense Authorization and Defense Appropriation bills this spring and summer, this committee assignment could mean millions more in federal funding for Oklahoma’s military institutions and service members.  He is expected to serve on the Armed Services assignment for the next 1 to 5 months.  Boren will retain both his current seats on both the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the House Natural Resources Committee while serving on Armed Services.  Earlier this spring, when Boren was asked to join the Intelligence Committee, he took a temporary leave of absence from Armed Services but retained his seniority on the committee.

“I am honored to return to Armed Services for this assignment.  Oklahoma has a long and proud tradition of answering the call to duty and supporting our nation’s military.  I look forward to continuing my work on behalf of Oklahoma’s military service members and their families, and on the national security issues facing our nation.   As the Committee begins discussion on measures critical to our Armed Forces such as next year’s defense budget, this assignment will allow me to continue being a strong advocate for the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, Camp Gruber, and the rest of Oklahoma’s military installations,” said Boren.
